Ohio University featured on the IHT

I was surprised when I clicked a link on the International Herald Tribune’s Web site for a story called “International students turn to recruiters,” and found the dateline to be Athens, Ohio. Apparently, OU actually pays at least this recruiting agency to “recommend” the university to international students trying to navigate which American school to attend.

Maybe that’s part of the reason our bosses told AJ and I that we go to “famous American university.” As an alumna, I have to say the practice is a little shady. Tsk, tsk, OU.

Fei Peng, right, dining at Ohio University with her roommate. Peng, a 20-year-old from Shanghai, used an agent to find the college. (Matt Eich for The New York Times)
