AJ took his black belt test Saturday, but it wasn’t in just any old gym. We all loaded into master’s van (with about 10 eight-year-old boys) and drove to Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Federation’s headquarters.

We watched tons of children test throughout the afternoon, and finally it was the older kids’ turn. This picture of AJ feels a little bit like a “Where’s Waldo?”

AJ prepared to spar by sporting this blue helmet, and this official seemed pretty interested in helping him with it. Then AJ began his sparring session.

Bow.

Resume fighting stance.

Kick!

We’re not sure when AJ’s hands and feet will officially be registered weapons, but we’ll let you know as soon as it happens.
